The Alabama Crimson Tide are rolling with Ty Simpson in year two of the Kalen DeBoer era. After Jalen Milroe's exit for the NFL, the Crimson Tide wanted someone who fits with DeBoer and Ryan Grubb.

They found it in Simpson, who won the job ahead of the season opener in a few weeks. The position is seemingly solidified now as the Tide aim to undo the disappointment of a 9-4 season in DeBoer's first year succeeding Nick Saban. What if it's not?

The Athletic's Ralph D. Russo thinks that the QB spot could be what derails Alabama in 2025. "Ty Simpson reportedly has earned the Week 1 start, but if the old saying about having multiple quarterbacks means you have none applies, Kalen DeBoer’s second season in Tuscaloosa could be similar to his first."

Simpson may have won the job, but the simple fact that there was a competition for the starting position means that Simpson arguably isn't that good. He was nearly a backup, in other words, and you will have a hard time winning in college with a borderline backup, especially in the SEC.

Maybe Simpson is good enough to win with a good team and better coaching around him, but he's so far not exactly an inspiring option, which could lead to a second year outside the 12-team playoff.
