The newest AP Poll isn't out yet, because Week 1 hasn't yet concluded. Bill Belichick's UNC debut is happening tonight. But either way, it was an absolute doozy of a week for college football. The sheer amount of top-10 matchups promised this, but Week 1 truly delivered.
Unfortunately, it was not great for a lot of teams, particularly Texas and Alabama. Texas looked far from worthy of being the number one pick, and Arch Manning looked like a pretty bad quarterback against Ohio State, who did win, but they also did not look great in Week 1.
The teams that lost those matchups with good teams, like Texas, Notre Dame, and Clemson, didn't fall too far in RJ Young's Week 2 Top 25. The one team that got the worst of it was Alabama, who fell an astonishing 14 spots, which ironically is the same margin of defeat they had to Florida State.
After an abysmal showing by the number eight team in the country, Young ranks them 22nd now, which is a far cry from a College Football Playoff contender. For reference, Texas' loss dropped them from first to fifth. Notre Dame's loss dropped them from sixth to 10th. Clemson went from fourth to eighth.
Alabama losing to an unranked opponent off a 10-loss season, albeit a squad that is greatly improved, decimated their ranking to Young, and it's likely to do the same when the next AP Poll drops.
