The Creighton Blue Jays had never landed a recruit regarded as highly as Hudson Greer.
The former Montverde Academy star arrived in Omaha this year as a consensus top-50 player in his class. He's expected to be a collegiate star.
And now, Greer is going to redshirt.
He hadn't yet appeared in a regular season game for Creighton, and now they've made this decision.
It's not one that normally happens with a top-end recruit, especially one at a program that isn't loaded up with other such recruits.
Since Greer hadn't played yet, there'd been speculation about this move, but it's still a surprise to see it actually happen.

Why is Hudson Greer redshirting at Creighton?
Creighton head coach Greg McDermott pointed to key conversations with Greer and his family that led to this choice.
"After numerous conversations with Hudson and his family, we have mutually agreed that redshirting is the best path for his future development," McDermott said in a release. "It was a very difficult decision, as Hudson is a very talented and competitive player that could impact winning this season. I'm proud of Hudson for choosing to invest in his development. We believe that his talent, work ethic and competitive nature will lead to an incredible career in a Bluejay uniform. Our staff is already working with him on a daily basis to sharpen his skill set and continue to develop his body. I'm certain that this decision will lead to an impactful role in our program next season. We couldn't be more excited that he is a Bluejay."
Creighton fans on social media are hoping this means Greer is committing to playing for the Blue Jays for the long haul.

If he’s trusting the process I am too. I really hope Hudson stays. Great dude with sky high potential. Pic.twitter.com/WRZ62yxXJL
Greer has not shared anything himself yet on social media.
No matter the reason, it's a bit of a bummer for the Greer hype train at Creighton to come to a halt.
