Purdue overtakes Houston for No. 1 in the latest AP top 25 image

In an 87-80 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Nov. 13, the Purdue Boilermakers recorded their third road win over a non-conference Associated Press top 10 team in school history and jumped the Houston Cougars for the No. 1 spot in the latest men’s college basketball AP top 25 poll released Monday.


Despite falling a spot to No. 2, the Cougars scored a major neutral site win over the Auburn Tigers on Nov. 16. The UConn Huskies retained the third spot, while the Duke Blue Devils and Arizona Wildcats swapped spots to complete the top five.

The Louisville Cardinals, Illinois Fighting Illini and Gonzaga Bulldogs each climbed six spots to Nos. 6, 8 and 13, respectively.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders and UCLA Bruins each dropped four positions to 15 and 19, respectively.

The NC State Wolfpack make their season debut at No. 25, while the Creighton Bluejays dropped out of the rankings after last week’s loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
