Is Calvin Russell playing tonight? What Syracuse plans for freshman football-basketball star image

Calvin Russell is on the court in the JMA Wireless Dome.

It's a building he will spend lots of time in for years to come. Syracuse's freshman phenom was a five-star football recruit as a wide receiver. But his debut in the Dome will come as a basketball player.

Russell arrived on campus in Syracuse last week and is already a part of the hoops team. It wasn't something known throughout his recruitment, but he's going to be playing basketball for the Orange, too.

SU's first game since Russell arrived comes Tuesday night against Florida State.

Russell is warming up with the rest of the Orange before the FSU game, and according to Aiden Stepansky of The Daily Orange, Russell is available to play against the Seminoles.

Given that Russell has been at Syracuse less than a week, it doesn't seem like he'd play a ton right off the bat, but it'd be cool for head coach Adrian Autry to get him on the floor in front of the home fans.

Russell is a 6-foot-5 lefty.

His mother, Chanivia Broussard, was a star at the University of Miami on the basketball court.

According to Stepansky, Russell got about 20 scholarship offers to play college basketball.

The most notable multi-sport athletes in SU history include Jim Brown and Donovan McNabb. Russell will try to add his name to that list.
