Is Darryn Peterson out for the season? Why fans think Kansas freshman is 'shutting it down' for NBA Draft image

Darryn Peterson hasn't had the smoothest start to his college basketball career, as far as playing in the games is concerned.

He's had to miss a bunch of action already for the Kansas Jayhawks due to injury.

Despite that, though, Peterson has shown enough when on the floor to remain a consensus top-three projected pick for the 2026 NBA Draft.

Peterson, along with Duke's Cameron Boozer and BYU's AJ Dybantsa, had the highest of expectations arriving in college, and they've each remained in the picture for the No. 1 overall pick in June.

In the modern era of college sports, that could mean taking priorities in an individual direction, but a recent viral post about Peterson doing that isn't real.

Is Darryn Peterson out for the season?

No, Peterson isn't out for the season.

The rumor began thanks to this viral but fake post from a known parody account:

That account popped up this college basketball season and has posted a lot of fake news.

This is just the latest example. If Peterson made such a decision, all the big NBA and college basketball insiders would be on top of it.

In this case, it's just looking for engagement. It's not real.
