The NBA Draft is now less than a week away, and that means it’s almost time for the top college and international prospects to live out their dreams. The draft is always packed with future stars ready to make a name for themselves, but this year, the No. 1 pick is all but locked in.
Cooper Flagg has been on the Mavericks’ radar ever since they secured the first overall pick. In fact, they haven’t even bothered working out other players—Flagg checks every box they’re looking for.
“The Mavericks have no plans to work out any other prospects for the No. 1 pick and have made clear publicly and privately that they plan on selecting Flagg when Adam Silver puts them on the clock to open the 2025 NBA Draft,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote.
As if that weren’t enough, the Mavericks even posted a premature welcome message on their official website.
“DLLS Mavericks reporter Kevin Gray posted on X a screenshot from Mavs' official website that displayed Flagg in Dallas' white home jersey – part of a premature ‘Welcome to Dallas’ graphic that was quickly removed from the team's site,” Yahoo Sports’ Jeremy Beren wrote.
With Flagg all but certain to join the team, he’s already looking ahead to facing his idol—LeBron James—who remains an icon for nearly every young player entering the league.

Even though the draft is still six days away, Flagg is already spending time with his future teammates in Dallas.
“After a Tuesday dinner with team officials in Dallas, Flagg had dinner on Wednesday with Mavericks players, according to NBA insider Marc Stein,” Bleacher Report’s Julia Stumbaugh wrote.
Flagg is clearly starting to build chemistry with the roster and seems fully aware that his NBA journey will begin in Dallas. With Flagg joining the mix, the Mavericks are poised to be in a great position to make a deep playoff run this upcoming season.
