Alex Sarr is starting to look like the player the Washington Wizards hoped they were getting with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

He showed flashes as a rookie, and those are turning into more consistent brightness in year two.

Sarr is averaging 17.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 blocks per game. Those are all improvements on his rookie season.

So too are his shooting percentages, all up, to 50.5% from the floor, 34.4% from 3-point range and 70.8% from the foul line.

All told, the 7-footer is starting to look like a cornerstone piece for a Wizards team that still has a lot to figure out.

In the process, he's trending toward a kind of season that the Wizards haven't had since 1993.

That's when Pervis Ellison exceeded averages of 15 points and two blocks per game, like Sarr is right now.

If Sarr keeps above those marks, he'll be breaking a 33-year drought, according to StatMuse.

Sarr will need more help to eventually get Washington back into the playoff picture down the road.

But for now, he's doing what he can to show impressive improvements in his game, and it certainly raises the ceiling of the Wizards' future.
