Is Wemby out for the season? Explaining Victor Wembanyama's injury news for Spurs image

Victor Wembanyama's 2024-25 season ended prematurely. He had a blood clot issue that cut his campaign short.

So when the San Antonio Spurs' superstar was injured early in this new season, fans worried they'd be facing a similar Wemby fate this time around.

Basketball is better for having Wembanyama in it. There has legitimately never been a player like him.

That also leads to caution. The Spurs know how special a talent they have on their hands. They can't put him in harm's way.

So as Wembanyama sits out for a while, there's an important question to answer.

How long is Wemby out?

ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Monday that Wembanyama has a left calf strain. He's expected to miss "a few weeks."

The Spurs were 9-4 at the time of the injury announcement. They won on Tuesday over the Grizzlies in their first game without Wemby.

The young superstar is averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game.

For at least a little longer, the Spurs will have to play on without him.
