The San Antonio Spurs got some good news regarding Victor Wembanyama after the star center exited the team’s 134-132 victory over the New York Knicks with a knee injury.

An MRI showed the injury to be just a hyperextension and revealed that Wembanyama didn’t suffer any ligament damage. These results led to a collective sigh of relief in San Antonio, as it means that Wemby won’t have to spend an extended time on the sideline.

He will still miss some game action, though. Wembanyama didn’t travel with the Spurs to Indiana for their matchup with the Pacers on Friday night and he has been officially ruled out of the contest.

The Spurs will be back home on Saturday night to host the Portland Trail Blazers. Wembanyama is considered questionable for that game and he will be considered day-to-day moving forward.

After the game against the Knicks, Wembanyama discussed the injury and expressed confidence that it wouldn't be something that would keep him sidelined for an extended period. He even wanted to return against New York.

"It was just a hyperextension, so it should be minimal," Wembanyama said of the injury. "I was confident. I was this close to coming back in the game. [They] had to hold me back."

On the season, Wembanyama has played in 21 games for San Antonio and he's averaging 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.9 blocks per performance.
