Spurs' Victor Wembanyama makes encouraging announcement with injury update image

Rising star Victor Wembanyama had his 2024-25 NBA season cut short due to a blood clot issue.

This is a concerning issue that we have seen a few other NBA players deal with recently, but there was assurance that Wembanyama would recover and return to play eventually.

There wasn't an exact recovery timeline for a while, but on Monday, Wembanyama himself gave an update on his situation.

What is the update?

French basketball reporter, Maxime Aubin, reported that Victor said, “I'm officially cleared to return. It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs' medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday). Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again !”

Wembanyama's last NBA game was played over five months ago, on February 12 against the Celtics.

He only played 46 games last season and, unfortunately, wasn't eligible for regular-season awards.

It was expected that he was well on his way to his first DPOY with how dominant he was on the defensive end before his season came to an end.

He was already an all-star in year two, and it's expected that he'll take another sizeable jump this upcoming season.

In the 2024-25 season, Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.8 blocks.
