The San Antonio Spurs have experienced considerable success in the NBA Draft lottery over the past few seasons, yet no one can truly fault them.
In the end, the Spurs have experienced defeats, exchanged athletes and other valuable items to secure advantageous draft selections and alternative routes, and have made sound choices. When all is said and done, apart from the clear selection of Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs might have made some regrettable choices, similar to any other franchise.
The San Antonio Spurs will hold the Atlanta Hawks’ initial selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, and Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report recently forecasted that the Spurs would choose an international talent in Tounde Yessoufou, who presently competes for Baylor.
NBA franchises will covet Tounde Yessoufou's power, physical gifts, and drive for scoring effortlessly, guarding opponents, and making impactful plays.
“He hasn't shot well from outside, and the early attempts at self-creation have exposed his lack of polish as a scorer and decision-maker. His physical traits and mentality point to a high floor. Yessoufou will have to show progress with his handle and shotmaking to sell NBA teams on a high ceiling,” he wrote.
Wasserman compared him to Cam Whitmore, a youngster for the Washington Wizards.
Whitmore has been perceived as somewhat divisive throughout his NBA tenure, yet if Yessoufou can exhibit less concern for scoring the ball constantly, as Whitmore does, there's a basis to think his approach could be suitable for the contemporary NBA.
