Shaq impressed by Wemby's unique talent

The San Antonio Spurs are looking downright scary. Through five games, they remain undefeated and sit in second place in the NBA standings. Their 5–0 record marks the best start in franchise history, trailing only the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who have opened the season 6–0.

So far this year, few storylines have been bigger than the dominance of Victor Wembanyama. From a 40-point performance to a nine-block masterpiece, the 7-foot-4 French phenom has impacted every facet of the game — and the basketball world is taking notice.

Through five games, Wembanyama is averaging 30.2 points, 14.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 4.8 blocks per contest, placing him firmly in the early MVP conversation.

On The Rich Eisen Show earlier today, Hall of Famer and four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal had high praise for the Spurs’ rising star.

“Victor Wembanyama is redefining what a big man can do,” O’Neal said. “Jokic has already redefined what big men can do, but Wemby’s taking it to another level — dribbling between his legs, stepping back, looking like Kevin Durant. He’s playing some excellent basketball right now, and I’m happy for him and for the San Antonio organization.”

O’Neal’s comments place Wembanyama in elite company alongside Nikola Jokic and Kevin Durant, highlighting just how quickly the 21-year-old has ascended into superstardom.

The Spurs will have Friday and Saturday off before traveling to Phoenix to begin a two-game Western Conference road trip against the Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.
