Report: Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan on trade block image

The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the NBA’s best teams this season but are still looking to upgrade their roster.

The Spurs may be open to moving forward Jeremy Sochan for a proven veteran, according to Forbes’ Evan Sidery.

Sochan is averaging 5.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists this season. He’s shooting 49.4% from the field and 26.9% from deep. He’s averaged 10.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in his four NBA seasons.

Sochan has seen a smaller role through 19 games with the Spurs. He’s played more than 24 minutes only once, a 130-117 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Dec. 5.

He was a consistent part of the Spurs’ rotation earlier in his career after being drafted No. 9 overall by the club in 2022. He averaged over 25 minutes per night in his first three seasons, including 25.3 in 54 games last season.

But the Spurs did not sign him to a rookie extension at the October deadline. He’s set to become a restricted free agent this summer. San Antonio likely doesn’t want to lose Sochan for nothing, and wants to get value back for the fourth-year pro.

A younger team like the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards or Charlotte Hornets could be good fits for Sochan and give him a bigger role.

The Spurs (20-7) have solidified themselves as contenders in the tightly contested Western Conference. They’re tied with the Denver Nuggets for second in the West and are 4.5 games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder.
