Luke Kornet continues career-best season with game-winning block in Spurs victory image

The San Antonio Spurs entered this week with a tough five-game road trip on their hands, three of which came against playoff contending teams.

After a 31 points from Harrison Barnes on Tuesday night, San Antonio squared off again on Wednesday night, the second night of a back-to-back.

They did so without stars Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle who remained sidelined with injuries. That didn't stop them from picking up the victory however, as they defeated the Orlando Magic in a tight 114-112 matchup.

De'Aaron Fox led all scorers with 31 points, five assists and five rebounds but turned the ball over seven times. Recent No. 2 overall selection Dylan Harper posted 16 points off the bench, the second highest scoring effort for San Antonio.

That said, it was Luke Kornet who stole the show. In the final seconds of the game, Kornet had a game saving block, preserving the Spurs' two-point lead.

That wasn't his only block of the game though, as Kornet would finish with three blocks to go along with five points, seven rebounds and four assists. Kornet has now blocked 14 shots in his last five games.

Kornet is proving himself to be one of the biggest bargain signings of last year's free agency, inking a four-year $40.7 million deal.

In addition to stepping up in the absence of Wembanyama, Kornet has produced all year.

Currently, he's averaged a career high in points, rebounds, assists and blocks per game in 14 contests.

Kornet will hope to ride his current momentum as the Spurs take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.
