During the offseason, it was reported multiple times that the Phoenix Suns had some level of interest in trading for Golden State Warriors youngster Jonathan Kuminga.
Kuminga has been in a strange spot to start the season once again with the Warriors, falling out of the rotation at times.
It remains uncertain what will happen over the next few months for Golden State, but it is safe to say that moving on from Kuminga is the better plan at this point.
The Suns will have to determine whether they still want to add a player of his caliber.
While Phoenix has played excellent basketball to start the season, the team may not want to disrupt that momentum. According to the latest from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, that appears to be the case for now.
“However, some things have changed since the summer when the 23-year-old forward was a restricted free agent. The Phoenix Suns, who discussed several potential sign-and-trade scenarios for Kuminga over the summer, are not as interested now as during that time, league sources told HoopsHype.
“Conversely, it’s worth noting that the Sacramento Kings, who also discussed potential sign-and-trade scenarios for Kuminga in the summer, have continued to keep tabs on Kuminga’s situation from afar, HoopsHype has learned,” he wrote.
While Kuminga is a solid player in his own right, given what the Suns have done on both ends of the floor this season, it’s tough to say they need to change much. He could be a valuable piece for the right team, but it may not be the cleanest fit in Phoenix right now.
