Sixers Injury Report: Update on Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid image

The Philadelphia 76ers are set to receive a huge boost tonight against the New York Knicks.

Star guard Tyrese Maxey will play for the Sixers tonight, according to the team’s official injury report. Maxey missed the past two games due to an illness.

Center Joel Embiid (illness) is questionable, while guard Kelly Oubre Jr. (Knee) and forward Trendon Watford (thigh) remain out. Oubre Jr. Has missed the past 13 games due to a lingering knee injury. Watford hasn’t played since a 144-103 loss to the Orlando Magic on Nov. 25.

Maxey is third in the NBA in scoring this season, averaging 31.5 points per game. He’s shooting 46.7% from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range. His 7.2 assists per night ranks 10th in the league. Maxey, a one-time All-Star, was named Most Improved Player after the 2024 season.

The Sixers have played solid basketball in Maxey’s absence, going 1-1 in that stretch. They defeated the Indiana Pacers 115-105 last Friday but fell to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

Embiid, who’s played in 11 games this season, scored 20+ points in both games without Maxey. He had 39 points on 52% shooting against the Pacers. He’s averaging 20.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and shooting 42.1% from the field this season.

Philadelphia has been ravaged by injuries this season. Maxey, Embiid, Watford, Oubre and Paul George are just a few of the Sixers’ notable players who have missed significant time this season.

The 76ers (14-11) are fifth in the Eastern Conference ahead of Friday night’s game.
