Joel Embiid injury update: 76ers star ruled out with knee soreness image

The injury issues continue for Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid.

The former NBA MVP was ruled out for Philadelphia’s home game against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday with right knee soreness, and his stay on the sideline will stretch on for another game, at least as Embiid has also been ruled out for the Sixers matchup with the Pistons in Detroit on Friday night, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer

Prior to the game against Boston, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse explained how the soreness in Embiid's knee came about.

"So, we had shootaround today," Nurse said at the time. "Obviously, a day off yesterday. He just reported a little soreness in his right knee. He’s had some imaging on that this afternoon and the doctors are here tonight to go over that with him."

After the game, Nurse revealed that Embiid had no structural issues in his knee and would be considered day-to-day moving forward. The Sixers have always erred on the side of caution when it comes to their prized big man, so it's not shocking that he's being held out for the game in Detroit.

Embiid has appeared in six games for the Sixers this season and is averaging 19.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 blocks in 23.3 minutes per performance.

After the game in Detroit, the Sixers will return home to host the Clippers and Raptors next week. We'll learn more about Embiid's status for those games in the coming days.
