TL;DR

  • * VJ Edgecombe is the third player in NBA history with 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ assists in his first five games.
  • * He joins NBA legends Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson on this exclusive statistical list.
  • * Edgecombe, the No.
  • 3 overall pick from Baylor, has had a remarkable start to his NBA career.

There's no better company a young point guard can keep than Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson.

That's the situation Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is in at the start of his NBA journey.

He has played five games, and he's got an average only Magic and Oscar have ever done.

According to Real Sports, Edgecombe, Johnson and Robertson are the only three players in NBA history to put up 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game through their first five games in the league.

It certainly has been a magnificent start to a career for Edgecombe, who was the No. 3 overall pick out of Baylor.

These are how his individual games have broken down so far:

  • 34 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists
  • 15 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists
  • 26 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists
  • 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists
  • 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists

He's formed an incredible pairing so far in the backcourt with the red hot Tyrese Maxey.

Pretty soon, the 76ers will have a good problem on their hands. Jared McCain will be back, and the guard spots will get crowded, with Paul George still out injured and Quentin Grimes mostly playing the 3.

But Edgecombe's emergence has been a boon for Philadelphia. It's not often anyone gets to hang out on any kind of record list with Magic and Oscar. But that's where Edgecombe is.
