The Orlando Magic have taken a big swing at getting things right this season.

They made the huge trade for Desmond Bane in the offseason to join Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, and they've built around that trio.

One of their offseason signings hasn't worked out quite as well as hoped, though.

Tyus Jones is on an expiring contract now, and ESPN's Bobby Marks makes the case for him as a trade candidate.

Jones, from a role perspective, has mattered: When Jalen Suggs has been out injured, Jones has started.

But he hasn't played well enough to remove the idea of dealing him.

"The Magic signed Jones to a one-year, $7 million expiring contract with the belief he would provide an anchor to their bench and a potential lead guard in closing lineups," Marks wrote on Thursday. "Although he has started eight games in place of the injured Jalen Suggs, Jones is on pace to play his fewest minutes since 2016-17. Jones is averaging 3.2 points and shooting below 40% from the field for only the second time in his career. The Magic are minus-7.5 points per 100 possessions when Jones is on the court."

Orlando benefits in a large way from Bane, Wagner and Banchero all being capable secondary ball handlers.

The Magic have also watched Anthony Black emerge in an impressive way, one that lightens the ball-handling load even more.

Jones wouldn't get a lot back in a trade, but it's an idea worth exploring for the Magic.
