Thunder add former Nets first-round pick in late preseason roster move image

The Oklahoma City Thunder will have a lot of pressure heading into the 2025-26 season after winning the NBA championship last season.

The Thunder are the youngest team in the entire NBA for the second straight year. The team is still making roster moves before their regular season opener against Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets on Oct. 21.

On Friday, Oklahoma City signed former 2023 first-round pick, forward Dariq Whitehead, to its roster after waiving forward Cameron Brown.

Who is the Thunder's latest signing, Dariq Whitehead?

Dariq Whitehead, 21, was drafted by the Brooklyn Nets with the No. 22 pick in the 2023 NBA draft out of Duke University.

Injuries have defined the young prospect's early career. Over two seasons, Whitehead has appeared in just 22 regular-season games while dealing with long-term foot and knee issues.

In the short dosage of action, Whitehead has averaged 5.3 points and 1.5 rebounds while shooting 40.6% from the field and 44.6% from three.

The Nets waived him on Monday, and the Thunder decided to give him a chance. He will most likely spend the majority of his time this season with their G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue, Clementa Almanza of the OKC Thunder Wire reported.
