Liz Cambage's short-lived tenure with the Los Angeles Sparks has come to an end.
After reports surfaced that Cambage "wants out of LA," the 30-year-old and the Sparks agreed to a contract divorce.
The news itself comes just 25 games into Cambage's first season with the franchise.

Within the team's statement, Sparks Managing Partner Eric Holoman said “we want what’s best for Liz and have agreed to part ways amicably. The Sparks remain excited about our core group and are focused on our run towards a 2022 playoff berth.”
After spending the previous three seasons as a member of the Las Vegas Aces, Cambage signed with the Sparks in February of 2022, speaking glowingly about the city of Los Angeles and her opportunity with the team during her opening press conference. Cambage

No less than five months later, Cambage's future is up in the air.

It hasn't exactly been smooth sailing for Cambage or the Sparks this year, as the team sits at 12-15 at the time of the contract divorce.
Over 25 games, Cambage averaged 13.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.6 blocks per contest. Cambage's scoring and rebounding figures are the lowest since her rookie season in 2011.

12 games into the season, LA fired head coach Derek Fisher, who sat at Cambage's side during the introductory press conference. Since then, interim head coach Fred Williams has posted a 7-8 record, but things have still been rocky with the Sparks.
Cambage has also been embroiled in controversy. She declared she had "zero" interest in representing the host Australian Opals in international competition at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup amid reports of Cambage using racial slurs towards the Nigerian Women's National team prior to the Tokyo Olympics, which she withdrew from participating in.
After signing with LA, the four-time WNBA All-Star told ABC in Australia that she never felt that members of the Australian Opals program wanted to protect her or wanted the best for her, which resulted in a strained relationship between the two parties.
What's next for Liz Cambage?
Cambage and the Sparks reaching a contract divorce opens the door for her to sign with a different franchise. The contract divorce is not unprecedented as the Phoenix Mercury reached a similar agreement with Tina Charles, who would later sign with the Seattle Storm.
With the WNBA Playoffs set to begin on Aug. 17, any player that is waived must sign by 5 p.m. ET on Aug. 1 in order to be playoff-eligible.
If a contending team were to sign Cambage, the process must take course fairly soon.
