The NBA has stayed relatively still for a couple of decades.

Aside from teams changing cities or their team name, we haven't seen an actual expansion team added since 2004.

That was 21 years ago...but that drought might come to an end sooner than some may have thought.

When could the NBA add expansion teams?

NBA commissioner Adam Silver was recently on the Dan Patrick Show where he was asked a question about what the NBA's plans with expanding are over the next few years.

Silver gave a serious hint that he and the league would be looking into the possibility of it this offseason.

We have heard for years how well it would work to bring back the Sonics or a team in Seattle, as well as a team in a growing basketball city like Las Vegas.

Las Vegas hosts the Summer League every year and there's always a great attendance turnout.

There's been too much talent in the NBA and in basketball in general recently, so adding another team or two would allow more opportunities for players to thrive.

Even if the NBA decided this summer to add an expansion team or two to the league, it would likely take a couple of years to go into effect.
