Landry Shamet didn’t get a legitimate chance to assist the New York Knicks against the Orlando Magic last Saturday.

After logging three minutes in the contest, Shamet endured an upper-body injury that ended his night prematurely.

As a result, the Wichita State product has missed New York’s last three games with the upper-body injury and was listed as out on the franchise’s injury report before its Sunday night home matchup vs. The Toronto Raptors

Why Landry Shamet isn’t playing for the Knicks tonight vs. The Raptors.

Shamet isn’t playing for the Knicks vs. The Raptors tonight due to a shoulder injury.

The Knicks’ decision to play it smart with Shamet will likely pay dividends for the franchise down the line.

The 28-year-old, who re-signed with New York after spending the 2024-25 season with the two-time NBA champions, has been one of Mike Brown’s most impactful second-unit contributors through 18 games.

Shamet, who’s succeeding in hanging around the league due to his trustworthy three-point shooting, is averaging 9.3 points per game while shooting 45.2% from the field and 42.4% from three with the Knicks this season.

With the Knicks’ main objective being to win their first championship since 1973, it would be foolish to encourage Shamet to play through an injury that should be treated with caution in late November.

New York clearly agrees, explaining why Shamet is still sidelined.
