Trade talks surrounding the New York Knicks are growing louder after the team's recent slump, and one player keeps being mentioned.

Karl-Anthony Towns is at the center of trade rumors, as he and head coach Mike Brown have struggled to get on the same page this season.

The Athletic's James Edwards III reported Wednesday that a Towns trade isn't likely, but cannot be ruled out.

"As New York continues to free-fall, and I keep talking to people around the league, it would not stun me if Karl-Anthony Towns got traded," Edwards said. "I wouldn’t bet on it, but it’s something I’m monitoring."

Towns is under contract through the 2027-28 season and is making $53.1 million this season. He is averaging 21 points, 11.6 rebounds and shooting 46.7% from the field. This is his second season with the Knicks after being acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves before last season.

Edwards said Knicks fans shouldn't expect a large return for Towns due to his expensive contract.

"The return wouldn’t be grand," he said. "But it would be considered a “big” move given all that has taken place in New York over the last 1.5 years."

The Knicks have been struggling lately. New York has lost four straight games and nine of its 11 games, including a 112-101 loss to the 12-32 Sacramento Kings last week. Towns hasn't scored 25+ points in a game since Dec. 27.

New York (25-18) is third in the Eastern Conference, seven games behind the top-seeded Detroit Pistons. Towns and the Knicks return to action Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets.
