The New York Knicks have officially been eliminated from the NBA playoffs, a disappointing situation for a team that clearly had a chance to make it to the NBA Finals.
The Knicks had some tough choices to make throughout the playoffs, but after Landry Shamet hardly played in the regular season, they turned to him at times during the postseason.
Sure, Shamet only played in four games against the Indiana Pacers, appearing in the final four games of the series, but that was much more than everyone expected.
Shamet played well, scoring 12 points in the Game 7 loss. A few of those points came when the game was out of reach, but he hit some shots, something the Knicks were looking for him to do.
While it was a below-average year for his standards, playing in the fewest minutes of his career at 15.2 per game in the regular season, Shamet was still a decent professional.
He shot over 39% from 3-point range on 3.1 attempts per game, the highest mark he’s had since the 2019-2020 season.
After signing a one-year, $1.3 million deal, there's a good chance Shamet won't be back in New York next season.
After the Knicks were eliminated by the Pacers, he took to Instagram to thank the fans, saying that this would be a year he would never forget.
"I ❤️ NY. I gave you everything I could and somehow you’ve given me even more in return. What a year. What a f—ing year. New York Forever ♾️ 🗽," Shamet wrote.

There's value in having players like Shamet on the roster.
If the Knicks were to sign him to a similar deal next year, perhaps he could return.
If not, the veteran should find another home in the league.
