The New York Knicks were so close. They took the Indiana Pacers to six games but were unable to secure a spot in the 2025 NBA Finals. Because of this, it is no wonder that Knicks trade rumors have already started to pick up. One prominent NBA reporter believes that the Knicks' best course of action this offseason is to make a giant trade to rid themselves of one of their top scorers. Largely due to some of his defensive limitations, Karl-Anthony Towns' trade rumors are officially being thrown around.
After the Knicks lost Game 6, Kevin O’Connor, longtime NBA analyst and Host of The Kevin O’Connor Show, took to Twitter to voice his thoughts on Knicks trade rumors and what the team should do this offseason.
"Trading KAT should be priority #1 for the Knicks," O'Connor posted Saturday night.
Karl-Anthony Towns' trade rumors existing at all may seem ridiculous to some NBA fans. The Knicks made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals with their current roster, and Towns was without a doubt one of their most important players.
Towns averaged 21.4 points and 11.6 rebounds during the playoffs. This put him second on the team in scoring and first on the team in rebounding.
However, that doesn’t mean Towns is safe from being traded.

Recent reports have surfaced about Towns’ teammates and coaches being frustrated with his defensive effort this season.
So, maybe O’Connor is right. If the Knicks are going to take their team to the next level, improving on the defensive end is certainly one way to do it.
Still, trading their second-leading scorer and best rebounder is a huge risk. If Karl-Anthony Towns trade rumors persist during the offseason, the team also risks ruining the strong foundation they built this offseason.
Keep an eye on Towns and other Knicks trade rumors over the next couple of months because whatever the Knicks choose to do could cause huge ripples across the NBA.
