OG Anunoby is experiencing a full breakout for the New York Knicks this season, and it’s catching the attention of the team’s coaching staff.
On the season, Anunoby is averaging 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the floor, and 39 percent from three-point range. His superb two-way play has helped catapult the Knicks to a 7-3 record, good for second in the Eastern Conference.
After the Knicks’ 133-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in which Anunoby scored 16 points and had two steals, head coach Mike Brown spoke very highly of Anunoby’s start to the season.
“OG is an All-Star, in my opinion,” Brown said. “Not only is he an All-Star, he's an all-defensive performer. In my opinion he should have an opportunity amongst others in our group to fight for Defensive Player of the Year in the league.”
Anunoby has become one of the most important players on the team since his arrival during the 2023-24 season, and he seems to just keep getting better and better as time goes on. He’ll look to continue his strong start as he figures to be a prominent piece for a Knicks team that is looking to snap a 52-year title drought in 2026.
