The New York Knicks will certainly be in the market for frontcourt pieces at the trade deadline, and recently a Knicks insider is suggesting a backup center option could be available.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond could be a target for the Knicks. The 14-year veteran, and four-time rebounding champion has spent the last two seasons with the 76ers, and has also suited up for the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets over the course of his career.
“Looking at how the Knicks have viewed him in the past - which is favorably - they've wanted to take a run at him in past offseasons. I wonder if that's a guy they take the temperature on,” Begley said.
The Knicks’ current center rotation includes Karl-Anthony Towns, Mitchell Robinson — who has dealt with injuries — and Ariel Hukporti. Drummond would provide the team with more stability, and a strong veteran precense.
Should Drummond ever end up in New York, he’d provide the Knicks with solid backup production off the bench, and a tenacious effort on the glass. This season, Drummond is averaging 7.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. While he may not be in his old All-Star form these days, his veteran presence, and rebounding skills could still provide valuable for a Knicks team in need of added depth.
