With the New York Knicks dealing with a hamstring injury to OG Anunoby, forward Josh Hart could be seeing an increased workload.
Anunoby injured his hamstring during the Knicks’ 140-132 victory over the Miami Heat last week. He’ll be reevaluated in 1-2 weeks while he recovers. In the meantime, this could mean more minutes for backup forward Josh Hart.
After being amongst the league leaders last season in minutes per game, Hart is averaging just 25.5 minutes per game this season. Since Anunoby’s injury, he’s seen his minutes rise, playing 34 minutes — and notching a triple-double — in the game in which Anunoby was injured, and 34 minutes again on Monday also against the Heat.
When asked by Stefan Bondy of the New York Post if he is ready for an increased workload, Hart joked about his excitement to play more minutes while Anunoby recovers.
“I hope. Before he went down, I think I was playing the least minutes of my career,” Hart said, then joked that he does keep track of his minutes “when I’m mad.”
The Knicks are going to need Hart to step up in Anunoby’s absence. Despite a slow start to the season for his standards, Hart can now take advantage of the opportunity to get extra burn in Mike Brown’s system as he looks to get back on the right track for the rest of the season.
