The New York Knicks dodged a major bullet in regards to Jalen Brunson’s ankle injury, as ESPN’s Shams Charania revealed that Brunson suffered a Grade 1 ankle sprain, and will miss Friday’s matchup with the Miami Heat but be re-evaluated daily going forward.
Brunson suffered the injury in the final minutes of the Knicks’ 124-107 loss to the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Late in the fourth quarter with the Knicks down double digits, Brunson was still in the game, and injured the ankle on a drive to the basket defended by Wendell Carter Jr.
Brunson would shoot the free throws, then intentionally foul and walk immediately back to the locker room without assistance, but a slight limp.
All things considered, the injury could’ve been worse for the Knicks and for Brunson, who has gotten off to a superb start to the season, averaging 28.0 points and 6.5 assists per game this season. At 7-4, the Knicks have gotten off to a strong start, and they’ll hope to see their captain return to the court as soon as possible.
