The New York Knicks could be in the market for center depth at this year’s trade deadline. However, one player they could be targeting might not be as available as once thought.
Per SNY’s Ian Begley, the Knicks have been linked to Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford, however Dallas may be reluctant to trade him away given the fact that they are still looking to compete in a tight Western Conference.
“I thought he would be available...it seems like they want to compete, so if that's the case, Gafford won't be available,” Begley said.
Gafford is now in his third season with the Mavericks, and is averaging 11.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game in that span. He has also played for the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. His size and rim protecting ability have made him a hot commodity around the league for several seasons, but for now it seems he will remain in Dallas.
Nonetheless, should he be made available on the market, expect the Knicks to get themselves in the mix for his services as they look to load up for a deep postseason run this season. The Knicks have gotten off to a strong start, and there is a general sense that the team is one key depth move away from being a legitimate title contender this season.
