Karl-Anthony Towns is in the midst of his second season with the New York Knicks, and he hopes to remain in New York for the foreseeable future. Towns still has two years remaining on his current contract, but he made it clear that he would like to sign an extension with the franchise.
"Hell yeah. Hell yeah, I want to stay here," Towns said of New York. "Obviously get a chance to be home, see my family. It means more than the money, you know. "So just to be able to be here with the fans, be with the family. It means a lot. I would like it to continue."
Towns is a New Jersey native, so he’s clearly appreciative of the opportunity to get to play close to home after spending nearly a decade in Minnesota. Plus, playing with the Knicks affords Towns the opportunity to compete for championships. New York made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals last season.
The Knicks have gotten off to a solid start this season, too. They sit at 13-7 through 20 games, which is good for fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.
Towns is also having another solid season individually. He’s played in every game for the Knicks so far and posted averages of 22.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per performance. He made the All-Star team last year during his first season with the Knicks, and he’s well on his way towards another selection.
Towns and the Knicks failed to come to an agreement on an extension prior to the Oct. 20 deadline this season, so now he’ll have to wait until after the season to put pen to paper on a new deal. As it stands currently, Towns is under contract with the Knicks through the 2027-28 campaign, as he has a $61 million player option for that season.
