The New York Knicks are likely to lose one of their key frontcourt reserves to free agency this summer, and the Golden State Warriors could be a potential suitor.
Precious Achiuwa is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and it appears unlikely he’ll return to New York. The big man was reportedly frustrated with his inconsistent playing time under former Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau. Even though the Knicks are shaking things up at head coach, the move isn’t likely to affect his decision.
According to NBATradeReport, Golden State has shown interest in the 25-year-old center.
The Memphis product may find a more consistent role with the Warriors, though he’d still likely have to compete for playing time with Quinten Post and Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Achiuwa is a competent rebounder at 6-foot-8, which could complement the Warriors’ three-point shooting attack built around Stephen Curry, Buddy Hield and Brandin Podziemski.
With the Knicks signing Guerschon Yabusele on Tuesday, all signs point toward Achiuwa’s departure from New York. The team will likely deploy Mitchell Robinson and Yabusele as their primary frontcourt reserves — a setup that doesn’t align with Achiuwa’s desire for an expanded role.

A former No. 20 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Achiuwa began his career in Miami before being traded to Toronto in a sign-and-trade deal for Kyle Lowry. Achiuwa was traded again in December 2023 to the Knicks, then re-signed with the team last offseason. Now, he’s expected to join his third team in as many seasons.
Across 57 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, he averaged 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 50.2 percent from the field in 20.5 minutes per game.
