NBA trade season has officially commenced in 2025-26, and the New York Knicks appear to be on the prowl for a game-changing talent.
Aside from the Milwaukee Bucks' disgruntled and newly-injured superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, ex-Los Angeles Clippers point guard and 11-time All-NBA Team selection Chris Paul became another notable candidate to keep an eye on after his shocking dismissal from the franchise early Wednesday morning.
Though the Knicks could use an experienced backup point guard to assist Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, recent updates from SNY's Ian Begley indicate that the Knicks' perceived interest in trading for the 40-year-old floor general could be overblown.
"Chris Paul very surprisingly parted ways with the Clippers overnight," Begley shared prior to the Knicks' 119-104 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night.
"A lot of speculation about the Knicks (trading for) Chris Paul. I'm told that it's highly unlikely at this point for that to come to fruition and for Chris Paul to be traded here."
"Knicks, again, like their team and that's where it sits."
After making 16 appearances for the Clippers in what was confirmed to be his final NBA season, a massive rift between the 21-year veteran and Los Angeles' coaching staff led to Paul being sent home.
With his career hanging in the balance, New York's reservations about acquiring the former superstar guard are justified, especially considering his horrid averages of 2.9 points and 3.3 assists on a 32.1% shooting clip from the field this season
Even with all of the positives that Paul could bring to a contending Knicks group, his age and tremendous decline from season No. 20 with the San Antonio Spurs (8.8 points, 7.4 assists in 82 games) to season No. 21 in Los Angeles have given New York's front office several reasons to look the other way.
