Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves could not close the deal against the lowly Sacramento Kings on Monday night.

The Timberwolves blew a 14-point lead at Golden 1 Center and fell to 10-7 on the season with a 117-112 loss to the Kings (now 5-13).

This was despite Edwards scoring a season-high 43 points in 40 minutes, which saw him make some unique NBA history.

Monday marked Edwards' 22nd 40-point game, not even a quarter of the way through his sixth NBA season.

He continues to climb up a historic list of players who have accrued at least that many 40-point displays before their 25th birthday in the history of the NBA.

The only other players with more such games than Edwards? They're three of the greatest shooting guards ever to step foot on the hardwood: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady.

Oddly enough, Edwards scoring 40 or more points hasn't correlated with team success this season; the Timberwolves have only a 1-2 record when Edwards hits that point total.

Still, there is little doubting that Edwards is one of the most explosive and talented guards in the whole league -- and he is well-positioned for a career year in his age-24 season.

Edwards this season is averaging 27.8 points on 47.5 percent shooting. Both figures are career-highs and have him on track to merit a fourth successive All-Star selection.
