On Monday, the NBA opened a new window as Dec. 15 is the first day for most players who were signed this offseason to become trade eligible.
Although the Miami Heat were one of the quieter teams this offseason in the free agent market, players like Dru Smith and Jahmir Young are now able to be dealt.
So what could be expected from the Heat while they turn to a new chapter in the 2025-26 season?
Heat roster update: New window opens on December. 15
Now, there are questions about whether new additions like Davion Mitchell are now trade-eligible with the new window opening. Because the guard received a 20% or higher raise this offseason and was retained by Bird Rights, he's ineligible to be traded until Jan. 15.
As far as an update on the Heat's two-way players, Jahmir Young is now eligible for trade after converting from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract during the preseason. Meanwhile, Vlad Goldin and Myron Gardner, who currently play under two-way deals, have been trade eligible 30 days after being signed to their contracts back in July.
According to the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman, about 17% of players in the NBA are now trade-eligible.
Miami currently has one roster spot open with the new trade window opening up. Reports say the Heat have been monitoring free agent players, but now have a chance to use that roster spot in a trade.
The Heat have been a team listed as trade suitors for big-name players like Giannis Antetokounmpo ever since the end of the 2024-25 season. It will be interesting to see if Miami pulls off a blockbuster deal at some point within the next months.
