The Miami Heat have been star hunters for the past few seasons. While they’ve acquired some notable names such as Andrew Wiggins and Norm Powell, Jimmy Butler remains their most prominent recent star.

These days, the league is hearing about Miami’s interest in the Memphis Grizzlies guard, Ja Morant. While that’s out there, the NBA Insider Sam Amick recently noted that the Heat have kept their trade plans “pretty close to the vest.”

“If you want to reach and get back in the star player business, you can probably find a way to do that with Ja,” Amick said on the Ryen Russillo Show

However, if the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes come to life, Amick suggests the Heat just might have a shot to land on his shortlist.

“If you have any intel … That Giannis might decline that extension, then Miami, my understanding for sure, is absolutely a place that Giannis is believed to be open to.”

The Giannis situation in Milwaukee keeps swinging back and forth. The star forward continues to publicly state he doesn’t want to leave the Bucks. Behind the scenes, somebody is saying something different, hence the steady reporting that suggests a failing Bucks team could force him out.

At 17-23, the Bucks are 11th in the Eastern Conference. They trail the Chicago Bulls by two games. Even after losing Damian Lillard, Milwaukee isn’t in a place they imagined.

Before, all signs pointed to the New York Knicks being in a league of their own when it comes to the potential Giannis trade sweepstakes. The Heat seem to be gaining plenty of steam there if it does go down.

“It’s only a matter of time until they take a big swing,” Amick concluded on the Heat. “Pat’s not getting any younger, and Erik is not going to do this forever. I don’t know what that looks like, but you feel like one of these days we’re going to look up and they’ve done something big.”
