The Miami Heat has been on a roll lately, winning three straight games against the Indiana Pacers, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Denver Nuggets to close off the year. More importantly, it seems the Heat have returned to the high-scoring pace they’ve demonstrated at the beginning of the season. They’ve even finished their last game scoring 147 points against the Nuggets.

Nikola Jovic is stepping up

One player who showed signs of improvement is Nikola Jovic. Jovic hasn’t had the best season that many people were looking forward to. From coming off the bench, to getting injured to getting kicked from the rotation altogether, it has been a bumpy journey. Luckily for him, star player Bam Adebayo sat out against the Hawks and the Pacers, which gave Jovic the opportunity he needed to redeem himself.

Against the Hawks, Jovic finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in 21 minutes. He went 3-14 from the field, but that’s only due to his returning from a right elbow injury. However, he would go on the following night with a better outing. He finished with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists while going 7-14 from the field in 25 minutes.

In addition, Jovic’s playing time remained consistent even with Bam Adebayo’s return from a sore lower back. Against the Nuggets, Jovic finished with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists in 26 minutes. Although the Heat dominated the second half following Nikola Jokic’s unfortunate injury at the end of the first half, it’s an encouraging sign that Jovic is displaying signs of his true potential. He looks to add to the Heat’s winning streak to four when they play against the Detroit Pistons on New Year's.
