The Miami Heat are getting some much-needed help in their matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, as the team announced Sunday night that All-Star guard Tyler Herro will be making his season debut.

Herro underwent ankle surgery in late September and spent the opening weeks of the 2025-26 regular season rehabbing his injury. Now, he returns to a Miami team in strong shape, sitting third in the Eastern Conference with an 11-6 record — including four straight wins.

The Heat have done quite well without Herro in the lineup, finding immense production from Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Norman Powell. In Herro’s absence, Davion Mitchell has taken on ball-handling duties, averaging a team-high 7.2 assists while bringing lockdown defense in the process.

Herro is coming off the best season of his career, averaging 23.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds on 47.2% shooting from the field. He earned his first All-Star selection and helped Miami clinch the eighth seed last season. Unfortunately, the Heat fell in the first round of the postseason, making Game 4 Herro’s last appearance.

It remains unclear whether Herro will start in his return, or whether he’ll be on a minutes restriction to begin his season debut. That call will likely be made by Erik Spoelstra and the rest of his coaching staff. The NBA has seen a significant uptick in lower-body injuries to major stars this season, and the Heat will want to avoid adding Herro to that list.

Miami is set to face a struggling Mavericks team coming off a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Dallas is also without star point guard Kyrie Irving, with Cooper Flagg temporarily taking over ball-handling responsibilities.

Herro should look to capitalize on the opportunity and shake off any remaining rust. Herro has yet to play alongside new teammate Norman Powell, making his debut a highly anticipated watch.
