Heat’s Norman Powell reveals that he always wanted to end up in Miami image

Norman Powell has been a revelation for the Miami Heat this season. After being traded to the Heat from the Los Angeles Clippers this past offseason, Powell has become a go-to option in the Heat’s offense.

Despite being without leading scorer Tyler Herro for the entire start of the season so far, the Heat have a record of 7-6 through the first 13 games thanks to Powell stepping up in the offense. On the season, he is averaging 26.1 points per game, shooting 48 percent from the floor and 47.9 percent from three-point range.

Powell recently spoke about his thought process with joining the Heat, saying that Miami was always a destination he had long considered.

“Miami is a team I wanted to play for for a while,” Powell said. “We did a list of teams to play for and MIA was on the list. We hoped it was earlier — it fits exactly who I am as a person and as a player.”

So far, the pairing seems like a match made in heaven. After a disappointing season last year in which the Heat finished under.500, and were swept out of the playoffs in the first round, Powell and the Heat will look to get back to the postseason in 2025-26 with better results this time around.
