Heat face rising concern over Norman Powell injury as Tyler Herro nears return image

TL;DR

  • Tyler Herro nearing 2025-26 season start after ankle surgery.
  • Norman Powell sidelined with a new left groin strain injury.
  • Powell has no set return date, indicating a significant absence.
  • Powell is Miami's leading scorer with All-Star caliber statistics.

The Miami Heat got good news regarding Tyler Herro, who is getting closer to his 2025-26 season start following ankle surgery in September. Yet, as one Heat player makes a comeback, another appears to encounter a setback.

Miami's top scorer this season, guard Norman Powell, has unfortunately been sidelined by an injury.

After Sunday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Powell received an MRI on his groin. The 32-year-old has missed multiple games so far this season due to problems with his groin.

Powell (groin) out for Heat, no return date

The Heat faithful were eager to witness the synergy between Norman Powell and Tyler Herro during Herro's comeback on Monday, but it appears their backcourt partnership will have to wait.

An MRI conducted after Sunday's victory indicated that Powell is experiencing a left groin strain. ClutchPoints' Zachary Weinberger noted that this particular groin problem is distinct from the previous one that caused him to sit out games earlier in the current season.

Despite seeming like a fresh injury, the Heat have indicated that Powell has no set return date. This suggests that Miami's leading scorer will be sidelined for a significant duration.

Since his trade to the Heat from the Los Angeles Clippers during the recent offseason, Powell has once again achieved All-Star caliber statistics. Across 14 appearances, his averages include 25.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals, with shooting percentages of 50.0 from the floor and 46.4 from beyond the arc.
