Miami Heat center Kel’el Ware has been on a heater of late, and it culminated into one of the best games of his young career on Sunday.
In the Heat’s 132-125 loss to the New York Knicks, Ware shined despite the result, scoring 28 points and securing 19 rebounds in the losing effort. After a slow start to the season, Ware has started to pick up the pace, and is looking more and more like the player Miami thought they were getting when they drafted him.
On the season, he’s averaging 12.5 points, and 10.7 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the floor, and 48 percent from beyond the arc. Lately, he has earned the trust of head coach Erik Spoelstra, and continues to move up the priority list. Nonetheless, not everything thinks Ware is untouchable.
Ex-NBA player Jeff Teague said in his latest podcast episode, that Ware could eventually be a trade chip to land a star in light of his big performance against the Knicks.
“He’s very negotiable. Giannis is sitting there somewhere. Milwaukee is going to want Ware, Herro, and Jaquez… He does this once every blue moon though,” Teague said.
Ware will look to build off his recent stretch of games as the season progresses. The Heat have hit a bit of a wall after a strong start, and they’ll look to get back on track alongside Ware’s ascension.
