Just a couple of days after Trae Young was traded to the Hawks, it was reported that the Grizzlies, for the first time, would be open to hearing offers on guard Ja Morant.
With this announcement and news being reported fairly recently, we will start to find out over the next few days/weeks which teams have a serious interest in Morant and which teams will be removing themselves from the Morant sweepstakes.
Just hours after the announcement, the Rockets' stance on Morant has already been reported.
Will the Rockets pursue Ja Morant ahead of the 2026 NBA Trade Deadline?
NBA insider Kelly Iko reported, "The Houston Rockets are not interested in trading for Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant."
The Rockets had a busy offseason, most notably acquiring Kevin Durant, as they attempt to improve after a first-round exit in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.
They currently are the #6 seed in the West, with a record of 22-12.
Unfortunately, Rockets' guard Fred VanVleet suffered an ACL injury before the season that will likely keep him sidelined for the entire 2025-26 season.

That left a hole at the guard position, leading to Amen Thompson getting a bigger role at the guard position.
Despite having VanVleet out, the Rockets decided not to be aggressive when it comes to going after a player like Ja Morant, who is making around $40 million this season.
Morant has played just 18 games this season, and there have been evident signs of a deteriorating relationship between Morant and coach Tuomas Iisalo, which ultimately may have led to the Grizzlies opening off the opportunity for teams to send trade offers on Morant.
This season, Morant is averaging 19.0 points (lowest since rookie season), 3.2 rebounds (career low), 7.6 assists, 40.1 FG% (career low) and 20.8 3P% (career low).
