The Memphis Grizzlies are seemingly considering ending the Ja Morant era, with him not happy in Memphis, and recently getting a one-game suspension for in-house problems. Now, it could be time to start shopping him around.
Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes that one possible trade destination could be the Atlanta Hawks, who would flip All-Stars with Memphis.
The trade would be simple, and would look like this:
Grizzlies get: Trae Young
Hawks get: Ja Morant, $6.6 million trade exception
“Young, out for a month with a knee injury, is in the final year of his contract unless he opts into his $49 million for 2026-27. He can extend and trade to Memphis, voiding the option to add three additional seasons (or wait six months to add four)...The Hawks, who have playoff aspirations, get an immediate replacement for Young. Morant is less expensive and would give Atlanta more time to decide whether he's the right fit, rather than paying Young this summer,” Pincus wrote.
Before his injury, Young was averaging 17.8 points, two rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game. Morant is averaging 20.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. So, it seems like an even swap, as Young will definitely raise his averages when he returns.
If the Grizzlies really want Morant out, they should consider this trade. It’s probably one of their easiest options, and if they don’t, they’ll have to think of another solution.
