Monday night is a big one for the James family. Bryce James, LeBron's younger son, has his regular season college basketball debut for the Arizona Wildcats.

His father and brother Bronny won't be there. They've got a game in Portland against the Trail Blazers.

But the Los Angeles Lakers won't have pops on the court. LeBron remains sidelined and hasn't played yet this season.

It's a high-powered absence list Monday. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are both out, too.

James is the only one who hasn't played yet this season, though.

Why isn't LeBron James playing tonight?

LeBron James isn't playing tonight due to his ongoing sciatica injury.

James is dealing with sciatica on the right side of his body, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Sciatica causes pain and weakness in the lower back and leg. It's not something James has been documented as having dealt with before.

When James was diagnosed with the sciatica, he was expected to be out for three to four weeks.

Last week, ESPN's Dave McMenamin pushed the timeline back to an expectation of mid-November.

In the meantime, the Lakers will try to figure things out without any of their star power on the court to take on Portland.
