The Los Angeles Lakers host an NBA Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday night.

It'll be missing their bright yellow in-season tournament court, though.

The San Antonio Spurs are set to play the Lakers on their standard floor, rather than the alternate version that was created for these cup games.

And yes, there's a reason.

Why are the Lakers playing on their normal court in NBA Cup?

This is the second NBA Cup game the Lakers are playing on their normal court due to issues with the cup court.

ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported the news Wednesday afternoon that this would be the decision for a second tourney game in a row.

McMenamin wrote on X:

"Players had issues w/ the slippery surface of the alternate bright yellow Cup court during the group stage. A league source told ESPN the decision was made 'out of an abundance of caution.'"

It certainly makes sense to keep the players safe, especially in a national spotlight.

It's unfortunate just for the league's branding of this tournament, though. They like having those brightly colored courts to signify that it's an NBA Cup game. On this night, the court will look less like a highlighter and more like a standard basketball floor.
