TL;DR

  • Rumors suggest Dallas Mavericks may trade Anthony Davis, a highly regarded NBA player.
  • Golden State Warriors have long desired Davis, but his age and injuries are concerns.
  • The Warriors may avoid trading expensive assets for an injury-prone player like Davis.
  • Acquiring Davis could address the Warriors' center weakness if the cost is low.

Rumors have started to indicate that the Dallas Mavericks could move on from former Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis.

Davis, while still dealing with many injuries throughout his career, is highly regarded as one of the top players in the NBA.

While injuries and age have taken a toll, he remains an outstanding athlete who could be a valuable asset for a team such as the Golden State Warriors.

Tim Kawakami of the San Francisco Standard reports that the Warriors are anticipated to make moves before the February trade deadline, with Davis having been a long-term aspiration for the team.

However, he later added that he thinks the moment has passed due to his age and injuries.

“The Warriors have daydreamed about Davis for years, so anything is possible, especially with Dallas possibly approaching selloff mode,” he wrote.

“But the AD/Warriors moment likely has passed,” he continued. “Davis is an old 32 — often hurt, currently hurt, and Dallas just fired the guy who made the worst trade in recent NBA history to acquire him last season. The Warriors don’t need to add anybody that expensive and that prone to miss a month at any time.

“Conclusion: AD wouldn’t be worth trading away [Jimmy] Butler plus other assets.”

Is acquiring AD a sound decision?

There are ways a trade for Davis could make sense for the Warriors.

The Warriors' center position has clearly been a weakness in recent years. This trade would be perfect if the cost isn't too high.

However, giving up any assets for a player who is often injured always brings concerns.
