Rich Paul might be under fire with Los Angeles Lakers fans due to his public comments about a hypothetical Austin Reaves trade, but that hasn’t changed the super agent’s podcast plans.
In fact, Paul’s co-host, Max Kellerman, took another step in the take game and suggested that the Lakers should “consider” trading away Luka Doncic. He suggested that Luka Doncic’s lack of defensive value will prevent the Lakers from reaching their championship goals.
As expected, NBA fans on Reddit weren’t thrilled with the idea.
NBA Fans React to the Luka Discussion
R/cleo22270: They should change the name of their podcast to “r/nba Rage Bait”
R/gradeonacurve: This whole pod is a psyop to destroy the Lakers lmao.
R/This_Field_7872: Who asked for this podcast honestly lol
R/browndude10: typical dumb slop from kellerman
R/SadAccountant_23: This is straight up Bill Simmons trolling
R/pointguard22: that is dumb
R/Blueskyways: I've always found Kellerman to be insufferable. He's just a prettier Nick Wright.
R/Complete-Speed-8825: What’s their issue with Luka, man. Every damn time they mention it. Bro is living rent free in their heads
R/Cul_what: Buddy desperately chasing his next "I want Iguodala" moment lmao
In case you couldn’t tell, NBA fans believe the idea is absurd. The chances of Luka actually getting traded away by the Lakers are extremely slim.
Just last season, the Lakers were able to strike one of the most shocking NBA trades of all time with the Dallas Mavericks. Not even one year removed from the Mavs making an NBA Finals run with Luka at the head of the snake, the Mavs showed a willingness to part ways with their franchise player. Nobody expected it.
The Lakers acquired Doncic and eventually signed him to a long-term extension. He’s under contract with the Lakers until 2029, making $161 million once the extension kicks in next year.
In 32 games this season, Doncic is leading the league in points per game with 33.6 PPG. He’s shooting 46 percent from the field and 33 percent from three on 10.2 attempts per game.
Doncic’s defense might be a weakness, but his value of a scorer is way too high to pass up. It was a difficult and rare opportunity for the Lakers to land Luka. There is no sense in trading him away.
