Luka Doncic is playing with a different swagger this season.
The former Dallas Mavericks superstar appears to be eager to show the franchise they made a massive mistake trading him to the Los Angeles Lakers for a contributor who’s frequently on the injury report (Anthony Davis).
Doncic currently leads the league in scoring with 35.1 points per game and ranks 4th in assists (9.2).
Doncic recently became the first player in NBA history to record over 400 points and 100 assists through 12 games.
The five-time All-Star’s historic start to the year continued on Sunday night, as he achieved a feat never done by a Lakers guard.
“Luka Doncic becomes the fastest guard in Lakers history to reach 500+ points in a season,” ‘Real Sports’ stated on X/Twitter after Doncic’s 34-point explosion vs. The New Orleans Pelicans in the Lakers’ 133-121 victory.
If Doncic’s trajectory remains the same going forward, he’ll have a legitimate shot of capturing his first MVP award in the big leagues.
The former No. 3 overall pick is elevating the Lakers’ offense to a new level and ensuring he’s consistently excelling as the franchise’s No. 1 scoring option.
While it’s safe to assume Doncic’s main objective is to help the Lakers represent the Western Conference in this year’s finals (and ultimately hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy), it isn't a stretch to suggest he would be more than thrilled to receive the most prestigious individual regular season award a player can earn.
